The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has procured 56 Bajaj motorcycles and distributed essential learning materials to the 25 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) to enhance teaching and learning in public basic schools across the state.

The intervention, implemented under the leadership of the Board’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, is designed to strengthen community engagement, improve school supervision and enhance monitoring and evaluation of basic education programmes.

The motorcycles are expected to improve the mobility and operational efficiency of Social Mobilisation Officers and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, particularly in carrying out community advocacy, stakeholder engagement, school inspections and quality assurance activities.

Other items distributed include 236,800 customised 40-leaf exercise books, 14,509 diaries and record books, 16,215 attendance registers, 11,000 admission registers and 166 cartons of chalk for schools across the 25 LGEAs.

Speaking during the handover of motorcycle keys to the beneficiaries, Dr. Liman, who was represented by Full-Time Member I, Hon. Abraham Umar, urged the officers to maintain the motorcycles properly and ensure they were used strictly for their intended official purposes.

He also directed Education Secretaries across the state to ensure that all distributed learning materials reached their designated schools and beneficiaries, warning that any diversion would attract appropriate sanctions.

The NSUBEB chairman further called on education stakeholders, particularly School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), to monitor the distribution of the materials in their respective communities to promote transparency, accountability and equitable access to educational resources.

Dr. Liman expressed appreciation to the Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his continued support and commitment to improving basic education and delivering democratic dividends to the people.

He appealed to residents of the state to remain patient and support the government’s efforts to address infrastructural challenges in public schools. While acknowledging the scale and longstanding nature of the challenges,
