The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended traditional rulers in the state for their contributions towards maintaining peace and harmony in their respective domains.

Governor Bago made the commendation when he received a delegation of traditional rulers, led by the Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, on a condolence visit to the Government House in Minna.

The governor thanked the traditional rulers for their visit and expression of sympathy, describing the gesture as a demonstration of leadership and solidarity.

He also appreciated the traditional institution for its continued support to his administration, particularly in maintaining peace and order across the state.

Governor Bago described the death of 37 artisanal miners while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, as unfortunate, noting that the incident had attracted both local and international attention.

He particularly commended the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, and other traditional rulers for ensuring that their communities remained calm following the incident.

The governor said the traditional institution had remained proactive through the use of ward and village heads to support the maintenance of law and order.

He acknowledged that Niger State was facing several challenges, including insecurity, but assured that the state government was working closely with the Federal Government to address the challenges.

Earlier, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, described the death of the 37 artisanal miners as tragic.

He prayed Allah to forgive the deceased and grant their families the strength to bear the loss.

Alhaji Yahaya urged Governor Bago to remain strong and prayed for continued divine guidance, wisdom and strength to enable him lead the state towards greater development.

The traditional ruler commended the governor for his efforts towards promoting peace and development in Niger State.
