The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, says the Nigeria Police Force has arrested 1,643 suspects and rescued 1,066 kidnap victims since he assumed office in February 2026.
Mr Disu disclosed this on Monday at the opening of the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, CARSPO, in Owerri, Imo State.
The IGP, while presenting the Force’s operational scorecard for the past eight months, said 251 terrorists and suspected bandits, 343 murder suspects, 566 armed robbery suspects and 483 suspected cultists were arrested during the period.
He added that the police recovered 947 firearms and more than 22,000 rounds of ammunition from criminal elements across the country.
Mr Disu said the police would intensify efforts to tackle insecurity while simultaneously preparing to secure the forthcoming elections.
He stressed that the approach would not allow the election season to slow down ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
