The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested two motorists in Niger State for violating vehicle registration number plate regulations as it commenced the second phase of Operation GUDUMA.
The five-day enforcement exercise, which runs from November 2 to 6, 2026, is aimed at curbing the misuse of vehicle number plates and strengthening security on Nigerian highways.
The Niger State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Aishat Saadu, FNARC, disclosed this during a media briefing at the Sector Command Headquarters in Minna.
She said the nationwide operation, approved by the Corps Marshal, would target vehicles with counterfeit, covered, concealed, defaced, altered, illegible, expired and obsolete number plates, as well as the unauthorised use of diplomatic registration plates.
According to her, the misuse of vehicle number plates poses a serious security concern, as criminal elements could exploit such violations to conceal their identities, evade security checks and facilitate criminal activities.
Shortly after the briefing, FRSC personnel commenced enforcement on major roads, leading to the arrest of two motorists.
One was apprehended for using an obsolete vehicle registration number plate, while the other was arrested for possessing expired number-plate documents.
The Sector Commander said personnel and operational resources had been deployed to strategic locations, major highways and traffic corridors across the state to ensure effective enforcement.
She added that the exercise would involve collaboration with relevant security and law enforcement agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and improve operational effectiveness.
Beyond the enforcement of number plate regulations, the FRSC said its personnel would also work to ensure free flow of traffic, clear road obstructions and provide rescue services during emergencies.
The Corps urged motorists to ensure that their vehicle registration documents and number plates are genuine, valid and properly displayed in compliance with existing traffic regulations.
