The Vice-Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, has warned members of the public against fake Facebook and WhatsApp accounts created in his name to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
In a statement, the university said the Vice-Chancellor had dissociated himself from the fraudulent accounts and urged the public not to engage in transactions, send money or disclose personal and financial information to operators of the accounts.
The statement noted that Professor Sulaiman’s official Facebook account is verified and carries the official verification badge, urging members of the public to carefully authenticate any account or communication purportedly from him.
It advised anyone who receives suspicious messages, requests for money or business proposals from the fraudulent accounts to disregard them and report them to the relevant social media platforms and security authorities.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, stressing that he would not be responsible for losses arising from transactions conducted with fraudulent accounts or impersonators.
