The Vice-Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, has appealed to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, for more interventions, particularly in student accommodation.

Professor Sulaiman made the appeal when the newly appointed TETFund Board of Trustees member for the North-Central Zone, Dr. Hassan Abdulrahaman Ocholi, visited the University to assess its infrastructure needs.

The Vice-Chancellor said the University had recorded significant progress in TETFund projects, including the completion of a 750-million-naira student hostel and ongoing construction of lecture theatres and other facilities.

He, however, said the hostel capacity remains inadequate for the University’s about 21,000 students, with fewer than 2,000 currently accommodated in existing hostels.

Professor Sulaiman also appealed for the completion of an abandoned hostel project initially initiated through the Central Bank of Nigeria, saying additional accommodation would improve students’ security and campus life.

Responding, Dr. Hassan Abdulrahaman Ocholi commended the University Management for the judicious utilization and effective monitoring of TETFund projects.

He described student accommodation as a critical issue requiring urgent attention and assured the University of continued collaboration and support from TETFund.
