The Federal Government has flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 401-kilometre Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora road project in Niger State, valued at N1.5 trillion.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony in Bida, with Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, representing him at the event.

Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, saying the project reflected the President’s determination to improve the lives of Nigerians through investments across various sectors.

He expressed confidence that the people of Niger State and the North-Central region would support President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He also appealed for peace and political stability.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, said the project was the fifth legacy road project of the Tinubu administration, adding that the Federal Government was undertaking about 5,500 kilometres of new and ongoing road projects nationwide.

Umahi commended Governor Bago for road construction efforts across the state and at the federal level. He also praised the Dangote Group for partnering with the government to deliver the project using reinforced concrete pavement technology.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, said the project demonstrated the government’s commitment to road infrastructure development and called for public support for its ongoing reforms.

Similarly, the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Abubakar Usman, commended President Tinubu for the project and acknowledged Governor Bago’s advocacy for its implementation. He expressed optimism that the road would boost trade and stimulate economic activities at the grassroots.

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, also welcomed the development, saying the project would promote economic growth and prosperity across the state. He pledged the support of traditional institutions for its successful completion.

Speaking on behalf of the Dangote Group, the President’s Senior Special Adviser and the group’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Mansur Ahmed, described the road as a strategic economic corridor.

He said construction would commence from four locations simultaneously, with reinforced concrete pavement used to ensure quality and durability.

Ahmed added that completing the road would create business opportunities, generate employment and transform the corridor into a major centre of economic activity.

In separate remarks, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh; Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi; and the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, North-Central, Dr Abiodun Essiet, highlighted the project’s potential to improve connectivity and strengthen the socio-economic development of the region.
