Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the people of Northern Nigeria that they have nothing to fear about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying the region stands to benefit more from the administration’s policies, appointments and development projects.
Shettima gave the assurance on Monday, October 12, 2026, when he received a delegation of Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a northern-based political support group, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He urged northern leaders and citizens to unite in support of the administration’s second-term ambition, stressing that the development of the region and the welfare of its people remain priorities for the government.
According to the Vice President, the North has benefited significantly from the administration and stands to gain more if President Tinubu secures another term in office.
“We are benefiting and we stand to benefit more from this government in many ways,” Shettima said.
He cited the disbursement of N450 billion by the Bank of Agriculture to 700,000 smallholder farmers nationwide, noting that approximately 70 per cent of the beneficiaries were from Northern Nigeria.
The Vice President also expressed confidence that the administration would complete major development projects across the country, adding that President Tinubu remained committed to the progress of the North.
Shettima commended A4A for its continued support for the President and urged its members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across wards, communities and local government areas ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the Director-General of A4A and former Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, reaffirmed the group’s determination to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s re-election.
Badaru disclosed that the organisation planned to engage religious leaders, including Muslim and Christian clerics, as well as other influential Nigerians, to explain the need to support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027.
He said A4A was also working with the Presidential Campaign Council while concentrating on grassroots mobilisation to complement the broader campaign structure.
“We want to focus very well on the contacts at the grassroots—the local government areas and the wards,” Badaru stated.
Similarly, the Chairman of A4A’s Board of Trustees and former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, said the organisation, which supported Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 general elections, was prepared to replicate the feat in 2027.
Shekarau disclosed that the group had been engaging northern governors and other stakeholders to explore areas of collaboration in support of the President’s re-election.
He added that plans had been concluded to establish a fully equipped secretariat to coordinate the organisation’s activities, monitor reports from state coordinators and provide strategic direction to members across the country.
The A4A Board of Trustees chairman also invited the Vice President to commission the organisation’s office complex on October 17, 2027.
Among those present at the meeting were former Plateau State governors Joshua Dariye and Simon Lalong; former Taraba State Governor Jolly Nyame; former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello; former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema; former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda; the President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd.), alongside other government officials and A4A members.
