The Niger State Government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding judicial independence and improving the administration of justice, urging stakeholders to work together to address delays in court proceedings and restore public confidence in the judiciary.

The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, stated this on Monday while representing Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the special court session marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year of the Niger State Judiciary in Minna.

Garba described judicial independence as a constitutional safeguard critical to the effective administration of justice, assuring judicial officers of the state government’s continued support in creating an enabling environment for the discharge of their duties.

He urged members of the judiciary to uphold integrity, impartiality and accountability, noting that public confidence in the justice system depends on fairness, transparency and the timely delivery of judgments.

The Deputy Governor also called on the Executive and Legislature to respect constitutional boundaries and ensure that court orders and judgments are honoured by all authorities.

He appealed to the Judiciary, the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Bar Association and other stakeholders in the justice sector to strengthen collaboration towards reducing unnecessary delays in the determination of cases.

According to him, prolonged litigation imposes financial hardship on litigants, prolongs their suffering and undermines public confidence in the judicial system.

Garba further stressed the need for stronger cooperation between the Bar and the Bench, while advocating the adoption of technological innovations to improve case management, enhance judicial efficiency and accelerate court proceedings.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting reforms aimed at making justice delivery more efficient, accessible and transparent.

The Deputy Governor’s position was contained in a statement issued by Ummikhaltume Abdullahi Kuta, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Niger State, on October 12, 2026.
