Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, as a major loss to Jigawa State and Nigeria.

Shettima, who spoke on Friday during a condolence visit to Jigawa, conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences to the late monarch’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council, Governor Umar Namadi and the people of the state.

He described the late Emir, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026, after nearly 46 years on the throne, as a father, bridge-builder and stabilising voice who contributed significantly to peace, education, community development and national unity.

The Vice President said the late monarch’s decades-long reign would be remembered for wisdom, stability and dedication to his people, adding that his death had deprived the nation of a repository of history and experience.

Shettima prayed for Allah to forgive the late Emir’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus, while asking God to grant the family and people of Gumel the strength to bear the loss.
